Mission

The name of the Foundation is CH.I.L.D. Foundation (Canada) and CH.I.L.D. Foundation USA. (CH.I.L.D. is an acronym for CHildren with Intestinal and Liver Disorders).

To find a cure through research for children who suffer from the debilitating diseases of Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and liver disorders and to enhance the quality of care for patients and their families who suffer from Inflammatory Bowel Diseases.

The purposes of the Foundations are:

  1. To raise funds for medical research into Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, and liver disorders in children with a goal to find a cure for these disorders.
  2. To closely monitor the funds raised by means of an appointed Investment Committee whose responsibility is to make the accumulated funds work for the research program without risk.
  3. To work with the BC Children’s Hospital and the University of British Columbia to ensure:
    • The efficient use of the CHI.L.D. Foundation funds in the research program.
    • That a physical presence of the CH.I.L.D. Foundation will be evident in any building, laboratory or office on the BC Children’s Hospital site where the CH.I.L.D. Foundations funds are used.
    • All financial help in the establishment of the Digestive Disorder Program is to be exclusive of the CH.I.L.D. Research Fund.
  4. The operation of the Foundation will be carried on chiefly in British Columbia where the research laboratory has been built. This does not, however, limit expenditures in North America where the collaborative efforts of a U.S. foundation, laboratory or researchers will benefit the core focus of CH.I.L.D.: to find a cure for the stated disorders.
  5. The Foundation, registered as a charitable tax exempt foundation by both federal administrators in the United States of America and Canada, shall solicit funds in each country.
  6. The Foundation shall not be used for the pecuniary gain or profit of its’ members.
  7. Activities of the Foundation are limited to working with any organization, hospital, university faculty or individual for the purpose of finding a cure for Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, and liver disorders.
  8. When a cure is found for the stated disorders, the Board of Directors will have the responsibility of making a decision as to what other children’s illness they will support. In the search for another good cause they may call on advice from some of the donors they have worked with in order to make a thoughtful decision.

Our one and only focus is to find a cure for Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and liver disorders.
