The CH.I.L.D. Foundation 's gala Evening of Great Canadian Achievement at the Red Robinson Theatre Saturday, September 6 th was a tremendous success and a wonderful recognition of Award Honouree Dr. Brandt C. Louie.
Red Robinson , a Founding Director of the Foundation and for whom the Show Theatre is named was the entertaining Master of Ceremonies.
Funds raised from the sparkling event will be directed to research for children who suffer from Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and liver disorders. It was the largest single one-night fund-raiser in the Foundation's 13-year history.
Brandt Louie, the President & CEO of H.Y. Louie Co. Limited and Chairman & C.E.O. of London Drugs was the recipient of CH.I.L.D.'s inaugural Great Canadian Achievement Award. It was presented by Foundation Chairman Grace McCarthy, O.C., O.B.C. in tribute to Brandt's remarkably successful business career and deeply held personal and family values.
Brandt was introduced by Peter Legge, O.B.C., Chairman of Canada Wide Media Ltd., whose entertaining speech recounted many personal anecdotes about our special guest that touched on Brandt's business ethics and personal commitment to give back to the community.
Fourteen-time Grammy winner David Foster, O.C., O.B.C . of Victoria entertained the sold-out audience of 500 at the piano, with relaxed commentary and humorous banter with host Terry David Mulligan. David introduced three young rising stars Alisha Pillay , Tiffany Desrosiers of Langley and Cody Karey of Fort St. James and ended his show with Tiffany and Cody bringing the house down with their rendition of The Prayer, a tune that David Foster originally composed for a duet featuring Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion.
Presenting Sponsors for the Evening were Canaccord Capital Corp and Great Canadian Gaming Corporation. Ross McLeod, Chair and CEO of Great Canadian Gaming made our gala evening possible, and the CH.I.L.D. Foundation extends heartfelt thanks. We also salute Howard Blank, Vice-President of Entertainment for Great Canadian Corp, who served as auctioneer at the Live Auction. The awesome auction prizes even included a bright red Smart Car (won by David Foster!)
All in all, a memorable night an opportunity to honor a Great Canadian Achiever, Dr. Brandt Louie and a fun and enjoyable opportunity to make a real difference for the children and families we serve.
