The Action

an outstanding group of volunteers.
2001
The CH.I.L.D. Foundation presented the University of British Columbia
with $3.5 million in September 2001. This established the FIRST Endowed
Chair for Pediatric Research in Gastroenterology in Canada.

The Syd Belzberg CH.I.L.D. Gastroenterology Research Fund was established
to serve the research goals.
2003
Through a gift of $1 million from BC's Children's Hospital Foundation,
the CH.I.L.D. Foundation, with a contribution of $2 million, established
the SECOND Endowed Chair for Pediatric Research in Gastroenterology.
2003
Opened the first laboratory at BC's Children's Hospital for research
into inflammatory Bowel Disease.
The Future
Establish Canada's most efficient and cost effective Centre of Excellence
for Inflammatory Bowel Disease at BC's Children's Hospital.
The
present laboratory built by CH.I.L.D. in 2003 with the help of the Variety
Club, will be transferred to a new building now in the planning stage.
This new building will house a new "bench to bedside" facility to give
care and guide research for children suffering from Crohn's Disease,
Ulcerative Colitis and liver disorders.
To
be completed in 2006, the new initiative is being helped dramatically
by Variety - the Children's Charity who have pledged $1.7 million towards
the state-of-the-science facility.
The
Innovative Ideas in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Research Network
using internet and new secure technology is also part of the Variety-CH.I.L.D.
initiative. It will bring together researchers via computer technology
and interaction between doctors and researchers will be greatly enhanced.
